Colorado Permanente Medical Group, P.C.
The Colorado Permanente Medical Group, the physicians group that provides health care to more than 670,000 Kaiser Permanente members at 31 medical offices along the Front Range, announced its selection of Margaret Ferguson, MD, as the newest executive medical director (EMD).
As the first woman to serve as Kaiser Permanente Colorado’s EMD, Dr. Ferguson is leading the Colorado Permanente Medical Group (CPMG)—comprised of more than 1,100 primary and specialty care physicians—in providing care to Kaiser Permanente members in Colorado. She began her new role on Dec. 19, 2015 when the role transitioned from Dr. Bill Wright who served in the role for eight years.
Dr. Ferguson’s responsibilities as EMD include sitting on the CPMG Board of Directors to collaborate on the strategic direction of the medical group and working closely with her executive team and the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Colorado to identify and develop ways to help Kaiser Permanente meet its goals of providing high-quality and affordable health care to its members.
“It’s a privilege to lead this amazing group of physicians who direct care for our Kaiser Permanente Colorado members,” Dr. Ferguson said. “As we continue to put our members at the center of our care, I know that we are best positioned to embrace patients and their needs with coordinated and integrated care through our vast network of primary and specialty care physicians. We know that we must be bold advocates for affordable health care and I’m excited to be part of the evolution we’re seeing in health care right now.”
Dr. Ferguson began her career in health care as a registered nurse, and spent many years at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHC) in Denver. She also worked at both CHC and Denver Health as a pediatric intensive care physician. Dr. Ferguson came to Kaiser Permanente in 2004 to help build the pediatric hospitalist program at SCL Good Samaritan Hospital, one of Kaiser Permanente’s hospital partners. She’s worked with CPMG in various roles, providing patient care as a pediatric hospitalist, leading physicians in championing affordability, and most recently as the vice president and chief of value for CPMG.
